Two questions. One, when can we buy one of these? For real. And two, custom sizes?

Use SMD tri-color with vert clear/ translucent rod to acheive optical transfer on scaled NxNxN designs. Likewise, smaller higher flux density rgb led's would reduce inner outer pixil blocking. Likewise, a thin wire(gold low K) can be used if mechanical suspension is produced with polymer suspension (ie floating in block of plastic) and or you can used a hanging trasparent semi-conducting polymer for wires. That seekway stuff is interesting, but made in America with American minds on American software is good for the American Economy. I will soon be throwing down $165 for one of your 4x4x4's (a christmas present) and anxious to get in on the build. Good Work Guys. The 8x8x8 will be even more engadget trick, uber slick, semiconductor amazing- but for now the 4x4x4 with this kind of well design (math oriented) programming with fractal like output diversity is truely code-fabulous! Rock that Visual Studio fun and keep up the good work- blessed be your operations!

Seems a little quiet in here. Has the 8 X 8 X 8 been finished yet? If not, when? What the price? You haven't scraped this project I hope!

[to fishtank]
Unfortunately it will not scale. After you get much larger than the 8x8x8 the front wiring and LEDs block the deeper ones, and you don't see them. Spacing out the LEDs to try to fix this causes close images to be spread out too much, and you don't get good visual continuity.

I simulated a lot of sizes, spacing, and we built a lot of prototypes to find out optimal visually pleasing configurations.

We do have other ideas for 3D display, but they mostly consist of things we cannot yet afford :)

This work is the beginning of something HUGE. You all have invented the precursor to holographic projectors. Imagine a 1000*1000*1000 and you'll "see" what I mean.
