Well that was a slow month

I’ve finally got the LEDs in, tested a few, and they’re right this time. So we should be packing up a pile of kits this weekend, and be back in business. To all who have been waiting, thank you for your patience!

We’ve got parts in, ready to be sorted into kits so we can ship out backorders and declare ourselves back in stock. But then I find that the LEDs our supplier sent us have the wrong pinouts. So I’m currently sitting on 10 thousand LEDs I can’t use and trying to get this sorted out with the supplier. Unfortunately this means we won’t be back in stock for probably at least 2 more weeks. Sorry to those waiting, I’ll be contacting those with backorders directly and you can always get a full refund if you don’t want to wait any longer.

We’re still here (but our stock might not be.)

I’m popping out of my long absence here to let people know that we’reÂ low on stock of 4Cubes and might not be able to fulfill any new orders until January.

I know an update is long overdue in these parts, so real quick: the two most common questions I get are “are you still alive/selling” (yes) and “when is the 8Cube available?” (uh…) The 8Cube is actually getting pretty close to being done. I was hoping to have it available before the year was out, but unfortunately it looks like we’re going to miss it. So January is now the goal. I’ll try to take and post some pics so you don’t think we’re just completely making this all up.

Superior Jig

A little while ago, one of our customers provided us with an improved jig design, and was kind enough to provide detailed instructions and pictures. It’s easier to make, use, and should produce better results than our jig design, so I recommend everyone use it. I’ve packaged it up into a PDF and posted it alongside the kit instructions. Thanks Rob!

It’s been awhile…

…since I’ve posted anything here. Despite what it may seem, we’re not dead yet! We’ve been working on the 8Cube, and actually making progress on it this time; hopefully we’ll have something available in the next couple of months.

To inject some life back in here, I’ll be posting pics of various things (better pics of the 8Square, new jig, maybe some prototype 8Cube) in the next couple of days.

Server Troubles

We’ve been having significant service issues the last couple weeks, with numerous outages. We’re in the process of moving to another host, so bear with us for the moment.

In the meantime, if our site is unavailable and our email bounces, it does not mean that we took all $128 of our Hypnocube profits and absconded to Tijuana. Probably.

New 4Cube’s finally all ready

After much delay, the new instructions are available in PDF format.

I quietly updated the order page last week (though some of you sneaky people seem to have noticed and sneakily ordered,) and with the instructions finally done I guess the new cube is now officially released. Whoo!

Now to get the 8Square out the door…

(Oh yeah, the Features page still needs to be updated. Though it will probably be replaced entirely by a Products page as we offer things other than the one Cube.)

General Updates On Our Activities

We received the new 4Cube boards from the fab house today. The new version isn’t dramatically different than the old, but will feature USB connectivity to the PC to allow hackers & artists to control the cube without having to deal with low level microcontroller programming. It will also feature some basic controls on the cube itself to navigate visualizations (pause, forward, back, etc.) Should be available sometime next week.

The final 8Square boards have been sent to the fabbers recently as well, and they should be arriving in a few weeks. Expect kits to be available in about 4-5 weeks.

The 8Cube has been on the back burner a bit while we wrap up the new 4Cube and 8Square, but with the recent soldering juju (posted below) we should have a fully operational RGB ~~battlestation~~ 8x8x8 cube, at least insofar as the the electronics is concerned. Hopefully Chris will get it dancing soon.
