After much delay, the finished 8Squares and kits are available for order from our order page. The instructions are quite finished yet, but I promise they will be online by the time kits are delivered (I decided to put the kit up for order before the instructions are done so the couple people eager to get them can get them sooner, and this will force me to finish the instructions
) They’re finished and up on the info page.
The 8Square is a significantly simpler kit than the 4Cube, but if you’re at all unsure whether you’re up to the task I encourage you to wait a few more days and review the instructions before ordering.

Here [hypnocube.com/Docs/UserManual_1_0.pdf] is a PDF of the user manual for the new 4×4×4 HypnoCube and the 8×8 HypnoSquare. This pertain only to devices bought after Feb 2008.
There are two sample programs with C++ sourcecode showing how to interact with the new devices. Both files are zip files containing Visual Studio 2005 projects. Read the above Manual for more information.

We received the new 4Cube boards from the fab house today. The new version isn’t dramatically different than the old, but will feature USB connectivity to the PC to allow hackers & artists to control the cube without having to deal with low level microcontroller programming. It will also feature some basic controls on the cube itself to navigate visualizations (pause, forward, back, etc.) Should be available sometime next week.
The final 8Square boards have been sent to the fabbers recently as well, and they should be arriving in a few weeks. Expect kits to be available in about 4-5 weeks.
The 8Cube has been on the back burner a bit while we wrap up the new 4Cube and 8Square, but with the recent soldering juju (posted below) we should have a fully operational RGB battlestation 8×8x8 cube, at least insofar as the the electronics is concerned. Hopefully Chris will get it dancing soon.

Here’s some pics of the current 8square, in its frame. This should be very close to its final form - the only planned change is that the PCB will be black.

And here it is with a diffuse acrylic face plate.

The acrylic dims the LEDs too much to look good in well lit areas, but it looks pretty slick in the dark (I’ll grab a pic later, but I was in a rush.) We’ll include both the glass and acrylic so you can choose which you prefer.

We’ve got our first 8Square board up and going. It’s not as novel as the cube, but it should be a lot easier to build, and we’re putting in USB so it can be controlled via a PC.
