It ain’t pretty, but it’s progress.
(Incidentally, this is a module to mate the gumstix to the 8Cube controller. It’s basically a big breakout board.)

Have you tried using a toaster oven or skillet with solder paste? I used that method putting together Puzzlemation (see my web link). Much easier than using an iron.
http://www.sparkfun.com has a good tutorial.
